Sault Ste. Marie gets $3.5M federal funding for its 24/7 mobile wellness bus tackling mental health, addictions, and overdoses.
The City of Sault Ste.
Marie has received $3.5 million in federal funding over two years to sustain its Community Wellness Bus, a mobile outreach program addressing mental health, addictions, and the overdose crisis.
The funding is part of an $11 million Emergency Treatment Fund supporting eight projects across Northern Ontario.
The bus provides 24/7 services including harm reduction supplies, Naloxone, first aid, mental health assessments, and referrals.
Managed by the Canadian Mental Health Association for service delivery and by city Social Services for operations, the initiative aims to improve access to care for at-risk individuals and reduce service gaps.
Data collected will inform future funding decisions.
