A Nigerian man was arrested for posing as an air force officer, defrauding traders of over $300,000 in a three-year scam.
A 27-year-old man, Yusuf Abdullahi, was arrested in Lagos on February 18, 2026, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Air Force officer for over three years, defrauding traders at major markets including Ladipo, Alaba, and Trade Fair.
Using a military camouflage uniform and a civilian Uber-registered vehicle, he tricked victims with fake bank alerts, collecting goods and money.
Victims reported losses exceeding N300,000, and he was identified after traders raised the alarm.
Military authorities confirmed he was not a real officer, and investigations revealed prior fraud incidents at Oshodi and Alaba markets.
Abdullahi claimed he bought the uniform from a man named Samuel for N30,000–35,000 and said payment issues prevented crediting funds, though victims disputed his claims.
He was handed over to police for prosecution, with military officials indicating possible links to a larger impersonation ring.
