Nigeria launches solar power pilot for 15 rural health and schools, funded by $700K ECOWAS grant.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has launched a pilot project to install solar photovoltaic systems at 15 public health and education facilities in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Niger State, and Nasarawa State, backed by a $700,000 ECOWAS grant under the World Bank-supported ROGEAP.
REA will implement the project with support from a dedicated unit and coordination with ECOWAS and a steering committee.
A separate agreement with Niger State enables co-financing and local monitoring.
The initiative aims to boost reliable power access, reduce diesel dependence, cut costs, and advance clean energy goals, improving healthcare and education services in rural areas.
