A £40 million student housing project in Glasgow has fully covered a 2017 Billy Connolly mural, ending its public visibility.
A large mural of comedian Billy Connolly, unveiled in 2017 to mark his 75th birthday, has been fully covered by a new £40 million student housing development in Glasgow’s city center.
By February 24, 2026, the 50-foot artwork was entirely obscured by the rising concrete structure on Osborne Street, ending its visibility from street level.
The project, by the Ambassador Group, will provide 273 student bedrooms and amenities, though developers said preserving the mural was not feasible during design.
Community groups and officials expressed concern over the loss of a cultural landmark on Glasgow’s mural trail, but the council noted such artworks were originally meant to be temporary.
The mural’s disappearance marks the end of its public presence, though its legacy remains part of the city’s urban landscape.
