Md Ali Hossain Fakir has been appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh, replacing Baharul Alam, according to a February 24, 2026, notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
A 15th BCS Police cadre officer from Bagerhat, Fakir previously served as Additional IGP and head of the Armed Police Battalion.
He joined the force in 1995, held multiple senior roles, and participated in UN peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and the Ivory Coast.
His appointment marks the first time an officer from his batch and district has reached the IGP position.
The move comes amid government efforts to reform law enforcement and improve accountability.
