Joseph Mays sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend in a 2025 domestic violence case.
Joseph Mays, 34, of Griffin, Georgia, was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 30 years after pleading guilty to malice murder in the January 17, 2025, killing of his girlfriend, Jamie Wiley, 36, in Catoosa County.
Mays shot Wiley in the head at an RV park where they lived, then dumped her body near a creek in Ringgold, where it was found the next morning.
Wiley’s identity was confirmed via fingerprints after Mays took her phone and wallet.
Though Mays claimed self-defense, investigators found no evidence to support that claim.
He entered the plea during pretrial motions on February 10, 2026, avoiding trial.
Prosecutors and Wiley’s family supported the sentence, calling it a step toward accountability and closure in the domestic violence case.
