Jack Draper made a successful return from a lengthy injury layoff by winning his first-round match at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, defeating French qualifier Quentin Halys 7-6 (8), 6-3. The world No. 15, sidelined since a bone bruising injury to his left arm at Wimbledon last year, played his first singles match since a Davis Cup appearance in February. Draper saved three set points in a tight opening tie-break and broke Halys early in the second set to secure victory in one hour and 37 minutes. He praised his recovery and expressed joy at returning to competition, advancing to face either Fabian Marozsan or Arthur Rinderknech in the second round.
