Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has launched 64 Parliamentary Friendship Groups with over 60 countries, including the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan, and others, to strengthen India’s global democratic ties through bipartisan parliamentary dialogue. The groups, led by lawmakers from across political parties including opposition and NDA figures, focus on trade, technology, social policy, and shared challenges. Comprising 10 members each, they aim to foster legislative exchanges, visits, and joint discussions, complementing traditional diplomacy. The initiative follows recent multi-party outreach efforts and seeks to project a unified Indian foreign policy voice, though countries like China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are not included.
