India approved Rs 12,236 crore in rail and infrastructure projects on Feb 24, 2026, to boost connectivity, freight, and sustainability.
The Indian Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24, 2026, approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 12,236 crore, including major railway upgrades such as doubling the Gondia-Jabalpur line and constructing third and fourth tracks on two other routes, adding 307 kilometers to the rail network across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
These projects aim to improve connectivity for nearly 5,407 villages with a population of about 98 lakh, boost freight capacity by 52 million tonnes annually, reduce congestion, and cut carbon emissions by 30 crore kg—equivalent to planting one crore trees.
The Cabinet also approved a new terminal at Srinagar Airport, an Ahmedabad Metro extension, power sector reforms, a jute MSP, and the renaming of Kerala to Keralam.
The meeting marked the first at the new Prime Minister’s Office, 'Seva Teerth,' symbolizing a shift from colonial-era structures.
