Glasgow approves 46 new affordable homes for seniors on former school site, boosting housing and sustainability.
Glasgow City Council has approved a new development of 46 social rent homes for people over 55 on the former Queen’s Park School site in the city’s Southside.
Led by Sanctuary Scotland, the project will transform a long-vacant brownfield site into energy-efficient flats across two five-storey blocks and a four-winged building, with communal green spaces, 14 parking spots, and public art reflecting local history.
The plan, expanded from 36 to 46 homes, supports sustainable, transit-oriented growth under Scotland’s National Planning Framework 4 and is part of the broader Victoria Hospital regeneration.
It aims to ease Glasgow’s affordable housing shortage, reduce fuel poverty, and preserve nearby heritage assets, with construction expected to begin after final planning conditions are met.
