Damien Bendall, already jailed for 2021 murders, got another life sentence in 2026 for attacking an inmate with a hammer.
Damien Bendall, who is already serving a life sentence for the murder of four people in Killamarsh in 2021, was sentenced to another life term in 2026 for attempting to murder a fellow inmate at HMP Frankland in May 2024.
He struck Michael Mullaney four times with a claw hammer in a prison workshop, resulting in severe head injuries such as depressed skull fractures and brain bleeding that required four nights in the hospital.
After an alarm, prison staff intervened, and Bendall surrendered, claiming he had no idea why he attacked Mullaney, despite his defense claiming he intended to request a transfer to a segregation unit due to mental health issues.
Judge Francis Laird KC emphasized the aggravating factors, including Bendall's violent history, and confirmed that he will not be released despite a minimum 15-year sentence.
