Cambodian and German archaeologists are restoring Naga balustrades at Banteay Samre temple, part of Angkor’s UNESCO site, with work set for completion by mid-2026.
Archaeologists from Cambodia and Germany are restoring the Naga balustrades on Banteay Samre temple’s east terrace in Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO site.
The project, started in January, aims to complete by mid-2026, involving the reassembly of stone fragments and preparation of pedestals.
Deterioration from vegetation growth and human activity has weakened the temple’s structures.
The park, home to 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries, drew 955,131 international tourists in 2025, generating $44.7 million in ticket revenue.
