Calgary man gets 2-year conditional sentence for money laundering linked to $3.5M property purchase, avoiding jail after his wife’s murder.
Calgary businessman Talal Fouani, 49, was given a two-year conditional sentence for money laundering tied to a $3.5 million property purchase, avoiding jail after his wife’s murder two months after his 2022 arrest.
Justice Greg Stirling cited Fouani’s trauma from witnessing his wife’s killing, a hitman-style shooting outside their home, as a key factor.
Fouani, who admitted to laundering $800,000 for a suspected cartel associate, must serve eight months under house arrest, observe a curfew, and complete 180 hours of community service.
The hitman received life in prison with no parole for 18 years but refused to name the shooter’s employer.
Charges against others in the case were dropped due to delays.
