Azerbaijan expands water access and modernizes systems via new wells, recycling, and infrastructure projects, aiming to resolve Absheron issues by 2035.
Azerbaijan has launched multiple initiatives to address water security, including a 2026 decree to expand drinking water access in Nakhchivan through 40 new wells and infrastructure upgrades, while the EBRD plans feasibility studies and major investments in Baku, Ganja, and Shaki to modernize water systems.
SOCAR is reducing freshwater use in its operations through recycling and closed-loop systems, and Azerbaijan aims to resolve all Absheron Peninsula water issues by 2035 with new reservoirs, desalination, and wastewater reuse.
