Assam forms 8th Pay Commission to review state employees' pay and benefits, aiming for fiscal sustainability and reforms.
The Assam government has formed the 8th Pay Commission in 2026, chaired by retired IAS officer Subhash Chandra Das, to review state employees’ pay and service conditions nearly a decade after the last update in 2016.
The commission will assess salaries, allowances, pensions, and benefits, with a focus on fiscal sustainability, digital transformation, performance-based incentives, and HR reforms.
It will evaluate fiscal impact, recommend phased implementation, and align changes with the Assam Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2005.
The commission, headquartered in Guwahati, includes senior officials and academic experts, and is expected to submit its report within 18 months.
