Singapore opposition lawyer Lim Tean sentenced to 3 months 1 week in jail for illegal law practice, sentence increased from 6 weeks.
Singapore lawyer and opposition politician Lim Tean has been sentenced to three months and one week in jail after the High Court increased his original six-week sentence for unlawfully practising law without a valid certificate between April 1 and June 9, 2021.
The court ruled the initial penalty was too lenient, rejecting his defence of reasonable care and lack of intent.
Lim, who obtained his certificate on June 10, 2021, remains facing other charges, including criminal breach of trust and harassment.
His legal team may appeal, and a two-month deferment is under consideration to protect clients.
The sentence does not disqualify him from running for parliament.
