Rabobank has announced a surprise leadership change in its Australia and New Zealand operations, with Mark Wiessing stepping down as regional head effective March 1, 2026, after nearly three years and over 40 years in international banking.
He will be succeeded by Caroline Oosterbaan, an Australian-born Dutch executive with extensive global experience in finance and strategy, who previously led Rabobank’s international wholesale and rural business from the Netherlands.
Oosterbaan, who lived in Sydney during the mid-2000s and holds a business economics degree from Erasmus University, has strong ties to Australia and will lead the bank’s agribusiness operations.
The transition is part of a broader strategic review, though no specific reasons were given for the change.
Rabobank, a 130-year-old cooperative bank with a major presence in Australia since 1990, emphasized its ongoing commitment to supporting the food and agribusiness sectors.
