Pakistani balloons carrying foreign currency and a mobile number were found near India’s border, prompting an investigation.
Two airplane-shaped balloons carrying a Pakistani ₹5,000 note and a U.S. dollar were found in Gunara village, Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first time foreign currency has been attached to such balloons in the region.
The white and red balloons, which also bore a Pakistani mobile number and a QR code, were discovered stuck in a tree near the International Border, likely drifted from Pakistan.
In a separate incident, 16 red balloons were seized in the Ramgarh sector, and a rusted grenade was recovered in Rajouri.
These developments follow earlier balloon sightings with PIA markings in Himachal Pradesh.
Authorities are investigating the origin and intent behind the balloons, including whether the currency is counterfeit.
