India’s top diplomat met Bangladesh’s new foreign minister, signaling strengthened ties and shared commitment to democracy and cooperation.

Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met with Bangladesh’s new foreign minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, in Dhaka, marking the first high-level contact with the country’s newly sworn-in government. Verma emphasized India’s desire to strengthen bilateral ties through people-centric cooperation based on mutual interest, highlighting recent high-level engagements including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message and phone call to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s attendance at the February 17 swearing-in ceremony. India reiterated its support for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation across all domains.
