Regent Sounds, a historic London guitar shop on Denmark Street, is auctioning T-Bone Walker’s 1949 Gibson ES-5N—known as “the guitar that started it all”—via Reverb in a five-week closed bidding event with a £1.5 million starting price.
One of only 22 made that year, the guitar is celebrated for its pivotal role in shaping electric guitar music and influencing legends like Chuck Berry, B.B.
King, and Eric Clapton.
The sale marks the launch of Regent Sounds’ Vintage Lounge and highlights the shop’s revitalized presence on the famed music street, once frequented by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
The instrument will be on public display and available for private viewings during the auction.
