Former North Macedonian deputy PM Artan Grubi arrested Feb. 23, 2026, on corruption charges involving €8M state lottery funds.
Artan Grubi, former First Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, was arrested on February 23, 2026, at the Blace border crossing after more than a year on the run.
He was apprehended following an international arrest warrant linked to allegations of embezzling over 8 million euros from the state lottery, along with former Lottery director Përparim Bajrami.
Grubi, a prominent ethnic Albanian politician, had been accused of corruption, abuse of office, and public procurement violations, with investigations also involving former Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski.
The U.S. State Department had previously added him to a corruption blacklist, alleging bribery to influence judicial outcomes.
Grubi, who denied the allegations and claimed he was abroad on a private visit, was transferred to Shuto Orizare prison and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
