Former NFL defensive back Ronyell Whitaker, who played for the Vikings, Buccaneers, Lions, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has died at age 46.
The Minnesota Vikings confirmed his passing on February 22, 2026, one day after the death of 25-year-old wide receiver Rondale Moore, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Whitaker, a Virginia Tech alum who helped the 1999 Hokies reach the national championship, played in the NFL from 2003 to 2010 and later coached high school football and ran a real estate company.
His family described him as loyal, passionate, and dedicated to family and mentorship.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
