Akinola Davies Jr. won the 2026 BAFTA for Outstanding Debut for *My Father’s Shadow*, a semi-autobiographical drama set during Nigeria’s 1993 election crisis, marking a milestone for African cinema.
The film, shot on location in Lagos and Ibadan, was the first Nigerian entry in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard.
