Australian high school students raised $4,000 in a hair-cutting event to support mental health awareness and the Black Dog Institute.
On February 23, 2026, Year 12 students at Farrer High School in Australia raised over $4,000 in an auction to support mental health awareness and the Black Dog Institute, part of their “Mullets for Mental Health” campaign.
About 80 students shaved or cut their hair, some dyeing it blonde or pink, with bids reaching $1,001 for a single haircut.
The event, held on the school lawn, aimed to spark conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and support a cause affecting one in five Australians annually.
The campaign has now surpassed $20,000 in fundraising, building on past student-led efforts like the World’s Greatest Shave.
Students said the initiative strengthened peer connections and highlighted the importance of emotional wellbeing.
