Andhra Pradesh police arrested former cop Sunil Nayak on Feb. 23, 2026, over alleged 2021 custodial torture of Deputy Speaker Raju.
Andhra Pradesh police arrested Sunil Nayak, a former CID Deputy Inspector General and current Bihar Fire Services IG, on February 23, 2026, in connection with allegations of custodial torture against K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, the AP Assembly Deputy Speaker.
The incident occurred in May 2021 when Raju, then an MP, claimed he was beaten and denied medical care while in custody after being arrested for remarks against former Chief Minister Y.S.
Jagan Mohan Reddy.
A case was registered in July 2024 following the TDP-led coalition’s assumption of power, naming Nayak and others.
He was taken into custody in Bihar and is being transported to Guntur on a transit warrant.
The investigation remains ongoing.
