Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Union government to provide e-bicycles to rural postal workers, known as Gramin Dak Sevaks, to improve service efficiency and reduce pollution.
Speaking at a conference in Guntur alongside Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Naidu highlighted the critical role of Dak Sevaks in India’s rural logistics network, noting they deliver nearly 33% of Direct Benefit Transfers and serve over 1.64 lakh post offices, 90% of which are in rural areas.
He emphasized their irreplaceable human touch despite technological advances and praised recent efforts to enhance their dignity, including a new uniform.
Scindia echoed these sentiments, calling Dak Sevaks essential to India Post’s modernization and financial inclusion, citing millions of savings accounts and digital service deliveries.
