Top Maoist leader Devji surrenders in Telangana with 16–20 cadres, a key blow to insurgency.
Telangana police reported the surrender of Thippiri Tirupati, alias Devji, a top Maoist leader believed to be the group’s general secretary, in the Asifabad forests, along with 16 to 20 other cadres.
Devji, who took over leadership after the 2025 death of Nambala Keshava Rao, was among the most wanted, with a Rs 25 lakh reward.
The surrender, part of a broader government push to end Maoist insurgency by March 31 under Operation Kagar, marks a major breakthrough.
While police have not officially confirmed the details, officials expect the surrendered leaders to be presented publicly.
The move follows intensified security operations and a rehabilitation campaign, contributing to a significant decline in Maoist strength across the region.
