Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku criticized the use of the slogan "Inquilab Zindabad" at a Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day event in Sirajganj, stating it has no connection to the Bengali language and reflects a disregard for Bangladesh’s linguistic heritage.
Speaking on 21 February 2026, he urged citizens to embrace a national identity rooted in Bengali history and culture, emphasizing that true nationalism requires more than annual ceremonies.
A Liberation War veteran, Tuku rejected accusations of being a foreign agent, stressing his lifelong patriotism.
He also criticized Jamaat-e-Islami’s influence on certain voter groups, warning that ignorance of history and language hinders national progress.
