PE teacher Mark Billings, 38, from Rayleigh, Essex, has advanced to the quarter-final of the revived BBC series Gladiators, airing on Saturday.
Born in Basildon and a former student of Chalvedon School, now The Upper Academy, Billings won his heat by overcoming physical challenges against the Gladiators.
He will compete in events including the suspension bridge, the travelator, and new twists like "Hammer puts a sock in it" and "Viper leaves the Gladiators in the dark."
Billings, who also coaches rugby at Rochford Rugby Club, has received strong backing from students and staff.
The third season of Gladiators, which returned in 2024, uses a knockout format with two men and two women per episode.
