Nigeria’s Lagos–Calabar Highway Section One nears May 2026 completion despite soil and vandalism challenges.
Nigeria’s Minister of Works David Umahi says Section One of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is on track for completion by May 20, 2026, despite deep soil challenges requiring up to 22 meters of excavation.
He condemned vandalism, including cutting fences and dumping waste in drainage manholes, warning offenders will face prosecution.
Security patrols have been deployed, and temporary manhole sealing is being considered.
The project, part of President Tinubu’s infrastructure reform agenda, aims to enable seamless travel from Lagos to the Dangote Refinery, with Section Two targeted for completion by year-end and bridges finished by April 2027.
