Iran secretly agreed to buy 500 Russian missile systems in a €500M deal, pending delivery from 2027–2029.
Iran reportedly agreed to a secret €500 million arms deal with Russia in December for 500 Verba shoulder-fired missile systems and 2,500 9M336 missiles, to be delivered in three tranches from 2027 to 2029.
The deal, negotiated by Russia’s Rosoboronexport and Iran’s defense ministry, follows a July request amid rising regional tensions, including U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites in June 2025.
While U.S. officials said the strikes disrupted Iran’s nuclear program temporarily, Iranian officials claim capabilities have since recovered and improved.
The agreement reflects growing military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, including joint naval exercises, though no mutual defense clause exists.
The Kremlin and Iran’s embassy did not comment.
Reuters could not independently verify the report.
