India plans to remove illegal infiltrators from electoral rolls and deport them within five years, Home Minister Amit Shah said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on February 21, 2026, that illegal infiltrators will be removed from both India’s electoral rolls and the country within five years, stating deportation is necessary, not just eviction from encroached land.
Speaking in Guwahati during the foundation stone ceremony for a new Assam Police 10th Battalion campus on reclaimed land, he linked the effort to national security, criticized the Congress for enabling infiltration for political gain, and claimed the BJP has cleared over 100,000 bighas of encroached land, with plans to reclaim 500,000 more if re-elected.
He emphasized that political will, like that behind reducing Naxalism by March 31, can achieve this goal.
