Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on February 22, 2026, that a statue of C. Rajagopalachari, India’s first Indian Governor-General, will replace that of British architect Edwin Lutyens at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking a symbolic shift from colonial to indigenous heritage.
