Zimbabwe will process raw minerals locally to boost jobs and economic growth.
Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on February 20, 2026, that the country is shifting from exporting raw minerals to prioritizing local beneficiation and processing to boost industrialization and economic growth.
Speaking at an exporters' conference in Bulawayo, he emphasized expanding value-added exports, developing downstream industries, and integrating into global value chains.
The move aims to leverage Zimbabwe’s rich mineral resources—gold, platinum group metals, lithium, and chrome—along with its skilled workforce, to create higher-value goods, generate jobs, and diversify the economy.
