Wyoming lawmakers advance strict abortion bills: a six-week ban with no exceptions and a disclosure law with patient lawsuit rights.
Two abortion-related bills are moving forward in the Wyoming legislature: a "heartbeat ban" that would prohibit abortion after six weeks, with no exceptions for rape or incest and penalties of up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines; and a disclosure bill requiring providers to give written notices about abortion methods, risks, alternatives, and the unproven nature of medication abortion reversal, with patients able to sue for at least $25,000 if coerced.
Both passed a House committee and head to the full House.
Wyoming currently allows abortion until fetal viability, around 25 weeks, and previous bans were struck down by the state Supreme Court in 2023 for violating a constitutional right to health care decisions.
Governor Mark Gordon has urged lawmakers to seek a voter-approved solution.
