A Washington man with autism, missing nearly a year, has spurred a push for a Purple Alert system to quickly notify the public about missing adults with disabilities.
Jonathan Hoang, a 21-year-old autistic man from Arlington, Washington, has been missing nearly a year after vanishing from his home, prompting his family to push for the "Purple Alert" bill, SB 6070.
They believe he was taken against his will, as he never left without informing someone.
Washington currently lacks a dedicated alert system for missing adults with disabilities, relying on an Endangered Missing Persons Advisory issued five days after his disappearance.
The proposed Purple Alert system would provide immediate public notifications via highway signs and radio, similar to Amber Alerts, and has passed the state Senate.
It is set for a House hearing on February 23, where Jonathan’s father plans to speak in support.
