U.S. and Ohio sue OhioHealth over anti-competitive practices that raise healthcare costs.
The U.S. Department of Justice and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost have filed an antitrust lawsuit against OhioHealth, alleging the health system uses its market power to force insurers to include its facilities in all commercial networks, limiting competition and raising healthcare costs in central Ohio.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court, claims these practices violate the Sherman Act and Ohio’s Valentine Act by blocking lower-cost, innovative health plans and reducing consumer choice.
The complaint seeks to end these restrictions to restore competition and improve access to affordable care.
OhioHealth, which operates 16 hospitals and outpatient facilities, says it is cooperating with the investigation but will not comment further due to ongoing litigation.
