Pakistan’s UN envoy warned that the UN’s $1.57 billion funding shortfall is undermining peacekeeping operations, reducing patrols and endangering civilians and peacekeepers.
Speaking at the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stressed that inconsistent funding threatens mission effectiveness, troop readiness, and rapid deployment, despite Pakistan’s decades-long commitment—over 250,000 personnel across 48 missions.
He urged reforms to improve agility, technology use, and financing, cautioning that political stalemates should not justify mission cuts.
