A South Carolina man was charged with stealing nearly $15,000 from a nursing home resident he was legally appointed to represent.
A 41-year-old Irmo man, Demetrias Antonio Roberts, has been charged with exploiting a vulnerable adult after allegedly stealing nearly $15,000 from a nursing home resident between July 18 and November 13, 2025.
Acting as the victim’s power of attorney, Roberts is accused of unauthorized withdrawals and purchases for his own use.
He was arrested on February 19, 2026, and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
The case, investigated by the South Carolina Attorney General’s VAMPF unit, involves charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent and financial abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Roberts faces up to 15 years in prison and a minimum $5,000 fine.
The case remains ongoing.
