Prof. J. Philip, founder chairman of Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME), died on February 21, 2026, in Bengaluru, India.
A leading figure in Indian management education for nearly six decades, he shaped programs at XLRI Jamshedpur and IIM Bangalore, led SAIL’s management training institute, and founded XIME in 1991, expanding it to Kochi and Chennai.
Under his leadership, XIME became the first Indian business school to earn a five-year EFMD accreditation.
Recognized for his commitment to ethics, entrepreneurship, and human-centered education, he received the Papal title of Commander of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great.
His legacy endures through generations of leaders and institutions he helped build.
