Ohio rural fire departments get $593K in grants for equipment via USDA and federal infrastructure law.
Rural fire departments in Ohio, including those in Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll, Belmont, and Columbiana counties, will receive $593,000 in grants through the state’s Volunteer Fire Assistance program.
The funding, from the USDA Forest Service and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, supports 95 projects across small communities with populations under 10,000.
Grants cover up to 50% of project costs, capped at $10,000 each, and help departments buy essential equipment like personal protective gear, communication devices, all-terrain vehicles, wildfire water tanks, and dry hydrants.
The aim is to improve emergency response capabilities in underserved rural areas with limited budgets.
