Kingston invests $3M to build Tri-Colour Labs at Queen’s University, addressing regional lab space shortages for life sciences startups.
Kingston is allocating up to $3 million from reserve funds to renovate a 10,000-square-foot modular Biosafety Level 2 wet lab at Queen’s University, creating Tri-Colour Labs to address a regional shortage of lab space for life sciences startups.
The project, part of a $12 million initiative, includes $3.2 million in government funding and $4.5 million from the university.
The lab will support research in biomedicine, genetics, and drug development, helping retain companies that might otherwise relocate to larger markets.
With demand exceeding 20,000 square feet in two years, the facility is expected to break even within two to three years, operating at an annual cost of about $640,000.
