Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's chief minister launched a movement to free jailed ex-PM Imran Khan, drawing condemnation from Pakistan's defence minister.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s position is “under threat” after Afridi launched the “Release Imran Khan Force,” a movement to free former Prime Minister Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023.
Asif called the force “unconstitutional and illegal,” stating only the federal government can establish such groups, and denied plans to move Khan abroad or to his residence.
The force, announced after a sit-in ended, aims to secure Khan’s release through peaceful means, will be formally registered, and plans to swear in members after Eid al-Fitr.
Afridi said Khan directed the movement, which supports constitutional supremacy and independent media.
