On International Mother Language Day 2026, India released updated Constitution versions in Gujarati and Tamil, plus a new legal glossary, to boost regional language access to legal knowledge.
On February 21, 2026, International Mother Language Day, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan released updated versions of India’s Constitution in Gujarati and Tamil, along with the eighth edition of the Legal Glossary (English-Hindi), during a ceremony in New Delhi.
The initiative, aimed at improving access to legal and constitutional knowledge in regional languages, supports greater public awareness and democratic participation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal praised the effort, highlighting linguistic inclusivity and referencing the 1952 Bengali language movement and prior release of the Santhali Constitution version.
Officials credited the Legislative Department’s Regional Languages Unit and Official Languages Wing for their work in translating and updating the texts.
