India’s media industry, valued at over $30 billion and the world’s fifth-largest, could significantly expand its global footprint through strategic AI adoption, according to JioStar Vice Chairman Uday Shankar.
Speaking at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, he highlighted AI’s potential to cut production costs and time, enable personalized and interactive content, and unlock new revenue models.
With the global media market projected to reach $3.5 trillion by 2029, Shankar said India—despite current underrepresentation in global influence—has a unique opportunity to lead in AI-driven creativity, provided it fosters AI-native talent, supports innovation, and avoids rigid regulatory models.
