India replaces TT vaccine with Td for all ages, including pregnant women, to boost long-term protection against tetanus and diphtheria.
India is launching the Tetanus and Adult Diphtheria (Td) vaccine, replacing the older Tetanus Toxoid (TT) vaccine for all age groups, including pregnant women, to improve long-term protection against both diseases.
Manufactured by the Central Research Institute under India’s National Vaccine Policy, the Td vaccine, which has undergone full regulatory approval, will supply 55 lakh doses to the Universal Immunization Programme by April 2026.
The move follows WHO and national expert recommendations to combat waning diphtheria immunity and strengthen public health efforts, including maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination.
