The Competition Bureau has expanded its 2024 probe into real estate commission rules to include Greater Vancouver REALTORS®, following a court order requiring the group to provide records.
The investigation examines whether national commission rules, enforced through MLS systems, restrict competition, discourage lower pricing models, or lead to steering buyers toward higher-commission properties.
While no wrongdoing has been found, the bureau is assessing whether these practices violate Canada’s competition laws and impact consumers.
GVR, as a CREA member, follows national rules, but the probe now focuses on how they’re applied locally.
The investigation remains ongoing.
