Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on February 21, 2026, that Assam is poised to become a major industrial hub in eastern and northeastern India, citing a ₹15 lakh crore development allocation from Prime Minister Modi and the BJP’s "double-engine government."
Speaking in Guwahati, Shah highlighted the reclamation of over 100,000 bighas of encroached land, including 174 bighas for a new police campus, and progress in road, rail, and bridge infrastructure.
He emphasized that these efforts are boosting connectivity, economic activity, and employment, with the Centre reaffirming its commitment to peace, progress, and prosperity in the state.
