A.R. Rahman agrees to credit Dagar brothers for "Shiva Stuti" inspiration in "Veera Raja Veera," per Supreme Court order.
Music composer A.R.
Rahman has agreed before India’s Supreme Court to credit the Junior Dagar Brothers—Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar and Ustad Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar—in the song "Veera Raja Veera" from *Ponniyin Selvan II*, acknowledging their traditional Dhrupad composition "Shiva Stuti" as inspiration.
The court directed the update on all social media and OTT platforms within five weeks, without prejudice to Rahman’s ongoing civil suit at the Delhi High Court.
The decision follows a petition by Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who challenged a High Court ruling that found insufficient evidence to establish the brothers as original authors of the composition.
The Supreme Court emphasized the cultural significance of the Dagarvani tradition and encouraged recognition as a constructive alternative to litigation.
