The Special Investigations Unit has closed its investigation into a November 22 incident in Owen Sound involving a 23-year-old man who fractured his wrist during a mental health crisis at an assisted-living residence. Officers were about 50 to 60 meters away when the man climbed a handrail and fell or jumped from a porch. Video footage showed the officers’ distance, and efforts to interview the man were unsuccessful, leaving insufficient evidence for criminal charges. The SIU found no basis for criminal liability and concluded the case without further action.
